Event: AIOTI discusses IoT at the European Parliament
In April, AIOTI’s Thomas Walloschke also spoke at the European Internet Forum (EIF) event, The Impact of Internet of Things on European Industries.
With its high-quality manufacturing industry, Europe can and should be the world leader in incorporating digitalization into product design, production processes, management and administration, logistics and other operations. Indeed, Digitising European Industry is a key EU initiative. At this lunchtime debate, hosted at the European Parliament, EIF members heard expert views on the successes and challenges the EU faces in bringing digitalization to Europe’s traditional manufacturing industries, and in particular SMEs.

“Our members have identified trust as a key ingredient for the successful take-up of IoT innovation,” says Kees van der Klauw, AIOTI chair. “If there is no trust, end users may simply refuse to adopt IoT technologies and applications. But trust is not only determined by superior technology or great applications. Trust in IoT remains a fuzzy concept, often narrowed down to security and privacy; how can we build trust with stakeholders, and on what will this trust be based?” Following our strategic ambitions, AIOTI is taking concrete steps to:
- Define a vision of trust
- Design an action roadmap to build certified trust in IoT ecosystems

Expected outcome: the results of this collaborative workshop will be consolidated into an AIOTI paper and presented to a wider audience during IoT Week 2018 in Bilbao.
INVITATION
We invite you to help define concrete steps and measures to enable trusted relations between IoT stakeholders across five focus areas: Wearables, Smart Cities, Critical Infrastructures, Farming and Living. We will use creative and collaborative techniques to:
- Identify of critical moments of trust, in upstream and downstream value chains
- Develop ideas for trust-building solutions, such as technical concepts, standards, policy measures or codes of conduct
- Cluster and consolidate ideas that can be put forward the broader AIOTI channels, including policy recommendations, inputs to the Research & Innovation agenda and industrial practice guidelines

AIOTI IoT week Bilbao – General Assembly
AIOTI will lead two sessions at IoT Week, 4th -7th June 2018:
- ‘Trust’ – planned for 7th June, 9.00-10.45h
- Digital Innovation Hubs and engagement of SMEs – planned for 7th June, 14.00-16.00h
The AIOTI Chair is also invited to speak in the session on Smart City IoT Platform and Solutions Convergence and Interoperability on 6th June, 12.00-13.00.
AIOTI will also hold annual General Assembly on 8th June 8.30-12.30h in Bilbao. The official invitation with draft agenda will be send out this week. |

WORKING GROUP UPDATES
Digital innovation hubs for Agriculture
WG06 has published a white paper on Digital Innovation Hubs (DIH) for agriculture. Agriculture DIHs are instruments conceived to support businesses, notably SMEs, farmers, agri-cooperatives and non-tech industries in their digital transformation. Indeed, DIHs have the potential to play an important role in the democratization of IoT and digital technologies in the European agri-food domain, but they will require significant investments from the regions and EU Member States, and strong co-ordination efforts to maximize their positive impact. One of the points that is essential to the rollout and long-term success of agriculture DIHs is the definition of a proper business model (combining both public and private funding) that is both convenient to DIH beneficiaries and well suited to the catalogue of services offered by the DIH.
The purpose of conducting this survey is to gain more insight on this topic direct from (potential) beneficiaries and promoters of agri-DIH initiatives in Europe. The insights and recommendations learnt will be published and also forwarded to European Commission departments in charge of promoting and defining EU support to DIHs. No individual answers will be published, only aggregated and anonymized results. |
